A Fundamental Challenge

One of the fundamental challenges in organizations today is engagement. Gallup trends this out over time and we generally see percentages in the low 30’s when it comes to employees who are seen as fully engaged at work. In fact, this is one of the “worst things” we guide our clients thru as they look to build high performing teams and businesses.

Getting and keeping people engaged is not easy. It takes work, purposeful work, but I would argue that it’s one of the most fulfilling parts of leadership. Seeing team members, switched on in a way that’s great for them, your customers and your profit outcomes is so great to see and experience.

When clients ask me what’s the ONE THING, I can do to get my employees more engaged, I have a very simple answer; “Meet them where they are”.

Now you may be reading this and saying, well that sounds good and its even a little “deep” but HOW do I do it? Usually what I will hear are things like....

  1. I'm too busy.
  2. It takes too much time.
  3. You don't know my people, they are tough.
  4. I'm just trying to get through the day.
  5. I'm overworked, understaffed, and overwhelmed, no one is doing that for me.

Now, I have to be honest; I have been all of those things over the course of my career and each is a product of NOT meeting people where they are.

In the months ahead I will share some of the lessons I have learned about the power of meeting people where they are and how it can and will deliver a more engaged team member experience for all.

If you would like more time to discuss this topics please click schedule a meeting and we can share how we guide our clients through this shift in order to drive worthwhile engagement that delivers results.
